Scratchbuilders article

A "How To" on scratchbuilding
By

Bob Read

Have you ever wanted to build the Titanic? Want something larger than 1/350 scale? There's only one way to do it, make it out of scratch. Your probably saying to yourself that you can't do it, I'm not a ship builder. Well, my friends, you don't have to be. Our good friend Bob Read has been kind enough to provide this article about scratchbuilding. Its not a complete article, but its great for people just starting out. The article doesn't actually provide info on building the Titanic, but rather tells you how to start building in general and also gives a brief description of the shipbuilding terms, but like I said, its great for starters.

This page has two parts to it, a .txt page with the info and 10 diagrams to assist you. Below you will find two links. One will lead you to the .txt file. The other will download the entire .zip package that contains the pictures and text.

Other resources include some of the scratch built ships on this site. Check out Jason Johnsons Titanic. Theres also one by Gowan Johnson (a 16 footer) and Michael Cook. Please feel free to e-mail anyone of these people if you have any questions about this subject. If you have a scratchbuilt Titanic you would like to feature on this site, please e-mail me, I will be happy to post it for you.
