Message Board F.A.Q.

If you have read this FAQ, continue to the board. If you are new here, continue reading. If you would like to avoid this page in the future, please bookmark the board at http://trmaarchive.com/wwwboard/titanic/..

Dear modelers,

This new FAQ is designed to help new people adjust to the board and its environment. This is not directed to any one person, but I fealt it was needed to explain what this board is about and to answer your most basic questions. I will try to post this FAQ every month or whenever I see a large amount of new people show up (which can often happen). I would first like to cover one issues:

Issue 1 - What this board is for and not for:

  • a. a. It is for the discussion of Titanic modeling, it is not for the discussion of any other models(with the exception of liners related to Titanic. Example: Lusitania and Olympic).

  • b. It is for the discussion of Titanics arrangments and appearence, it is not for the discussion of arrangments and appearence of any other ships(with the exception of liners related to Titanic. Example: Lusitania and Olympic), car, plane, train.. you get the point.

  • c. It is for the discussion of how many millions of rivets are on the titanic, it is not for the discussion of how many millions can be made in a year using bulk e-mail (SPAM WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT NOTICE!!!).

  • d. This is not a usernet newsgroup, everything under the sun is not up for discussion. I don't mean to be harsh, but most of the regulars (yes, there are long term regulars here. And they probably out number the new people, but most new people become good regulars) use this board as an escape from the usual newsgroups. They know that when they post here, they will get only the best of service and quality. Please help us keep it that way.

Now, to the F.A.Q.

Q1: This is my first time to the board, what should I talk about?

A1: I would recommend not posting at all at first. Stick around and read the current messages. Read the archive, theres enough information if that to last you about five years. Once you have a good feeling about what goes on on the board, post the question. This is where reading the archive comes in handy, theres a good chance your question has been talked about befor. If it hasn't, go ahead and post it. Just keep the first three issues from above in mind befor you post.

Q2: I have something I would like to advertise, can I post it?

A2: Only if its Titanic modeling related. Example: You have a model to sell, you have a Titanic model web page to promote. Do not post messages about your non-Titanic related site, if you would like to place a link on my page, please contact me. As mentioned above, NO SPAM ALLOWED, IT WILL BE DELETED.

Q3: I have a picture or link to show, how do I do that?

A3: Below the text box, you will see two smaller boxes like this...

    Optional Link URL:
    Optional Image URL:

Fill out the form with the url of the image or link.

Q4: Something I read upset me, should I flame back?

A4: Absolutly not. Every now and then, someone can get a little heated, it happens to the best of us. If you see something that you don't agree with, try to respond to it in a mature way. If its about some Titanic detail, do some research, and make sure you now what your talking about befor you respond. If its a direct hit to you, e-mail me and I will review the situation and remove it right away.

Q5: How do I find out what people are talking about on the board?

A5: Research, research, research!! I can't stress that enough. There are some great books out there that provide good technical information about the Titanic. Yes, the discussions on this board can get pretty deep, but with plently of good research, you to can join in on the fun.

Q6: Whats your procedures for deleting posts?

A6: From time to time, an off-topic post may occur, what do I consider off-topic? Read the above 'issue 1'. Another reason I may delete a post is because others on the board requested it. I will delete any post that gets more than four requests (not including me). You may also see posts dissapear because the original poster wanted me to. Either because he/she made an error or decided they didn't want it posted. If you have any further questions about this, please feel free to e-mail me about it.

Don't test this feature for the fun of it, you won't like the response you get from other board members.

That's it for now. If you would like to add a question to this FAQ, please e-mail me.

To wrap this up, I would like to thank everyone who reads this FAQ and takes it seriously. This board runs with a certian upper-class charm, and I would like to keep it that way. If after reading this and your still not sure if you should post something particular, please e-mail me and I will help you out.

Thanks,
Sean Winterberg
