Microscale Products and Decal

REVIEW BY: Cuong Phan

People recommend Microscale for their amazing products such as the Krystal Klear and setting solution for decal - Micro Set and Micro Sol (below).

For best quality, a decal needs to be cut to its shape, soak in water for 20-30 seconds, and then use the Microscale setting solutions bottles to apply.

The Micro Set (blue bottle) is used first to soften decals and improve adhesion. Micro Set is brushed on models where decal is to be applied, then apply the decal, and then brush over the decals once again to soften the decal. One positive thing about Micro Set is that it can be used for removing old decals by softening it and scratching it off.

Micro Sol (red bottle) is used second and its importance is to soften decals to conform to irregular surfaces for a “painted on” look. This solution helps the decals soften more and adhere to bumpy or rough surfaces like the rivets on the Titanic’s hull.

Many people have problems with the thin stripe that runs lengthwise of the Titanic. It was either the color or the way the stripe was designed by Minicraft. I didn’t like the decal that was given by the Minicraft Deluxe 1/350 Titanic. I opted for a better solution with more flexibility, accuracy, and color choice.

Microscale’s line of decal is very fine quality and offer many colors for modelers to choose from. These decals can be used for cars, trains, airplanes, ships, etc. When looking for the best color for the Titanic yellow stripe, I went with the Microscale Kevlar Fiber Material - Two-tone yellow and am very happy with the decision. This comes in one full sheet that will need to be cut to a preferred size.

With the combination of Microscale products, one can achieve realism to perfection. That is why, Microscale named their products “The professionals choice for museum quality models - Just for the realism”. They were right!
