Just thought I would send a few pics with current progress in the hopes it could be placed on the site. Here is a semi brief bit of info: I purchased the 1/350th kit from Ebay for a minimal cost in the fall of 98 with the intention of doing an R/C conversion. After it sat for a year and a half, I finally decided to actually do it. After much thinking, I decided that pirating the guts from an R/C boat of similar size would be the easiest and least expensive route. If a project will fail, I want it to fail in the least expensive way. Anyway, Ebay once again supplied me with the boat, a small R/C speedboat. I decided immediately that a single prop was the best way to go. It is far simpler to engineer, less to go wrong, and makes the model more useable. I removed the rudder assembly from the model, and grafted in the assembly from the R/C speedboat. Pretty simple, a section of coathanger was used for the linkage. The servo, motor, battery-pack (9.6v), and electronics are mounted on 3/4 inch wood. Aquarium gravel immersed in glue supplies the remaining ballast. I need to slow the motor down, it wants to go way to fast, but the modified rudder works very well, and will be durable. My goal it to keep the upper decks simple so nothing will break off when in use. The hull will be repainted of course. I will post more pics as progress occurs. Jason Johnson |
