Photo 1 - DOGWALK

1st class passengers are bending over to pet a dog on the starboard side of the poop deck near the railings. Nearby on a bench another passenger is reading a paper.

Photo 2 - FOCSLE2

Overhead view of the forecastle area showing the many additions that are needed.

Photo 3 - GSCBOW

This angle shows the bow wall of the forward Grand Staircase displaying the Crown and Glory, stairs, railing ornaments, passengers decending the stairs and the cherub on A-deck level.

Photo 4 - GSCSTERN

This view shows the aft end of the Grand Staircase foyer where both the Boat and A-deck levels can be seen along with the floor pattern, pillar stanchions, and furniture.

Photo 5 - HOSECREW

Based on an Olympic photo here the Titanic crew is busy hosing down and mopping the deck on the starboard area of the Boat Deck immediately aft of the gym. The hose is connected to a valve. A stream of water can be seen coming out of the hose while 3 crew members prepare to mop it up. Off to the bow side Jack Futrelle is viewing the activity.

Photo 6 - LOUNGE

This view shows the various details that were added such as vents as well as the repaired roofline by the bay windows. The aft stairs of the port lounge area are where Jack Odell can be seen in a real photo, however Jack is under the Bridge overlooking the well deck on this model. This placement along with a crew member and others is based on the Father Browne photo.

Photo 7 - PORT

This photo displays the port side of the Officer's Quarters area and Marconi room. Many changes were added to this area of the model.

Photo 8 - SPEDDEN

Though from a different angle you can spot the Spedden boy with his spinning top on the A-deck aft being watched by the two adults in the classic photo seen in Titanic books. Also just to port is the man and wife couple walking astern near the crane, seen likewise in the Father Browne collection.

Other poses of well known photos were duplicated on the model. You will find Captain Smith and Purser McElroy standing next to the starboard Officer's Quarters. The Cork Examiner photos are duplicated on the Boat Deck aft along either side of the raised smoke room roof. Jack Odell and Archibald Butt are to be found on A-deck forward. A gentleman sitting on a deck chair on the stern by the Kedge anchor simulates the well known Titanic poop deck photo. Countess of Rothes close to her deck photo position is there. Lastly the 2nd class passengers looking down onto A-deck aft can be found as they are seen in yet another Father Browne photo.

Crew were placed in animated positions working on ropes, repairing a davit with spanners and toolbox nearby while passengers can be found strolling, or sitting in deck chairs covered with blankets. Two small boys are kicking a ball on the aft well deck while groups of people converse in different areas. Some passengers are even looking out of the open A-deck promenades.

Lastly, though not readily seen are complete interiors with tables, chairs and plants for the Cafe Parisien, Private Promenades, Palm Court and the first two levels of the forward Grand Staircase. Included as well are all the gym equipment and bridge instruments with improvements also to the docking bridge telegraphs, binnacle, phone box, etc.

While not everything is to perfect scale, it was my intention to try and capture what the Titanic was by displaying people and crew doing different things that may be found on the ship at one time or another during its brief life. In trying to capture the ship's "essence" I found it to be a great learning tool and now I wish to share that experience with others.

Everything seen in these photos is explained in detail in the Official Titanic Scale Model Tutorial in the hope of helping all modelers achieve a high standard of model building and the satisfaction that goes along with it. I hope you enjoy the photos. Any and all comments are welcomed and responses can be sent to me at amodiga@hwcn.org
