ACADEMY TITANIC MODEL 1/400th SCALE
After building the Titanic model kit by Minicraft, some years later (2001)
I decided to give a crack at the new Academy Titanic model. At first I
wasn't sure of the purchase, but got encouraged enough to start building
and as compltetion comes to an end, it has surpased my expectations. I
started work on the model earlier in the year. My aim was to make it is
accurate as possible. One of the reasons why I build models, in this case
Titanic, is because I think it is the best way to show tribute to the
object you are making. I went down to work, looking through state of the
art models seen at the Titanic Research & Modelling Asscoation and
Debris Feild websites, looking through the highly informative detail-holic
Rivet-Counter site and started to add extra details that were not orginally
assscoiated with the kit. There are some mistakes I could not correct
with kit, one cause I did not have the guts to risk breaking some of the
parts, but I did my best to get the model as accurate as possible and
correct what I could correct with confidence. Proabbly the hardest thing
was the funnel colours, but choose the match that I best liked. I stuided
Ken Marschall's "Art of Titanic" and viewed James Cameron's
Titanic countless times for references as well.
Recently a friend came over with a digital camera and I decided to take
some shots of her nearing completion to share online. The model now is
nearing completion. I have just got to add a few more details, like lifeboats,
rigging, crane supports, condiuts, ladders and the kedge anchor on the
stern and then she is finished. Next model, the Lusitania.
Lastly I would just like to thank everyone who has helped me with the
model and shared there advice and time. One person I would like to thank
personally, is Daniel Cherry. Thank you for your awesome contribution.
Enjoy the photos!
