I have been a Titanic fanatic for 30 years; back when
Walter Lord's book A Night to Remember was the only "milk" to starved Titanic affectionatos! I started building
an, I believe to be unique, 1/87 scale model of the Titanic in 1989. After 4000 hours of work, I was involved in a
serious head-on collision on the day of the San Francisco earthquake and have yet to "complete"the last fine
details on the model (ratlines, lifeboat falls on the port side, and some stairway handrails). My submission for
publication to Ship Modeller or Model Shipbuilder was permanently delayed pending the lack of final completion.
However, I thought you might enjoy seeing a few pictures of it in its 97% state.
To my knowledge this is the only Titanic model that has been built to a model railroad scale rather than a marine
scale. I chose this unusual scaling because I felt that it would offer those who see it a more easily recognizeable
frame of reference.
