The seventh photo is a close-up
from off the port bow, showing the much-simplified detail on the front of
the
superstructure. I realize the lifeboats are quite inauthentic, too, but
they were the best I could manage with
cardstock as I ran out of time before the festival. I set the mast at 80
degrees. Under the fo'c'sle is a sheet of
cardboard set on edge, running fore and aft between the bulkheads (see photo
#1). I split one end of the bamboo mast by cutting it with a hacksaw, so
that the base of the mast straddles the cardboard underneath the forecastle.
That controls lateral play in the mast. The mast is held at 80 degrees by
seating it on the flat hull bottom against transverse bulkheads that prevent
any fore and aft play.
