This model was completed in December of 1998 with the construction of the case. The model itself was completed on Thanksgiving day. It took most of the year to
build the model, mostly during lunch hours and after work, as well as weekends. It is 41 inches in length, and is constructed of 1/4 inch foam core board for the
frame and individual hull plates made of artboard. All railings are electrical wire that has been stripped and soldered together on a specially built jig. All vents are
plastic sprue that has been formed with heat, and all life boats were carved from wood using a Dremel tool. Case is wood and lexan.
I also built an R/C Titanic made from a 1/350 model purchased from Ebay. I used the guts from an inexpensive R/C boat to do the conversion. I altered the rudder,
making it larger for better handling, and only used one screw for simplicity. I couldn't get around the top-heavyness of the model, so I was forced to use a high-tech
ballast device (A bolt with some washers). That eliminated the top heavyness and the torque lean from the single prop. I have bathtub tested it, I still need to do a
"field test", which I will do this spring when I take my real boat out.
