FOREPEAK TANK AIR VENT

This was an original TRMA find that is significant even to the passenger researchers, and common enthusiests out there. This is the vent that was heard "hissing" while the Titanic was sinking. The cover has been blown off, but research of similar configurations show that these vents had a "mushroom" type head. This allowed air out, but kept water from coming
in. The mushroom head could be unscrewed to allow soundings of the tank below.
