Orland, Florida: 'TITANIC- THE EXHIBITION' |
Update added September 15th, 2002
The superstructure on the boat
deck is getting well underway now. All the boat-deck beams are now installed
and painted apart from the the aft section, behind the aft expansion joint.
Getting the waterpipes and cable- rails correct was tricky as no plans exist
of them. The port side wasn't too bad as good pics are available. On the
starboard-side we just had to duplicate the way it looked on Olympic in
1911/12. In the meantime we got the first photoetched pieces such as lifeboat-nameplates
(Yes Bruce, the letters are angled:-)), manufacturers-plates for capstans
and cranes and even the Harland and Wolff
brass plaque etc etc. We have completed about 30 bench-seats and only have
about another ten to go now. They look very inviting to sit on! The slats
were made of pear-wood.
The 2nd-Class entrance on the boat deck has been built including the mystery-box
on the starboard side.
Also the "fidley's" infront and behind of nos. 1-3 funnels have
been started. It took some research to get the shapes right, but Bruce was
(again) of great help here.
