The Keewatin was a semi scratch built job with only the davits, stanchions, propeller, anchors, names letters, and pulleys being stock items. The window frames and safety netting were custom photoetched for this project. The Titanic is the Revell 1/570 kit and this diorama took 3 days to build! It was built for my local hobby shop just after the movie Titanic came out. The lines are from the case the model is enclosed in. The "ocean" is wall patching compound which can be worked longer than plaster and the floes were plaster set into the "ocean".They were painted white and the edges done in a transparent blue to add the icy edge. The ocean was worked using tongue depressors, a knife and handle from a paintbrush The iceberg was cast from plaster in a wax milk jug, sculpted, screwed to the base and weathered using an airbrush. The ocean was airbrushed a dark blue and the white on the waves from acrylic paint drybrushed on. The smoke on the model is excessive but it hides the wire frame supporting the cotton batting which was airbrushed dark grey. The combination of white and grey looks better than black. At this scale, any rigging would be overscale so it was left off. This diorama and the other where the forcastle was just slipping under were on display at my local hobby shop and helped sell a lot of kits! As for the "offer", the fellow who buys a lot of my models slipped me $80.00 for this one. I felt it was reasonable sonsidering how long I spent on it. If you want more details of the model or more pictures, without the case, let me know. I have to go over there soon anyway.

Yours, Clive Reddin
