Visiting the...

on my business trip through the USA from June 17th until July 2nd.

-

As a researcher for the Technical University of Berlin in Germany, I had the opportunity to make a trip through the USA to visit different universities and companies, to see what is going on in the "new world" in my research area. Because I landed in Los Angeles, and had to drive down to San Diego the same day, I didn't wanted to miss the last Ocean Liner still afloat. So I stopped by the "Queen Mary" and made some video shots from which I want to show some snappies. First of all, I haven't been on the ship, because I didn't have enough time, so I hope you are all pleased with the outside view.

Look at the double plates in the white painted section.

A closer view of the hull shows the doublers much better and the riveting of the upper part. What can also be seen is how the plates are attached to the hull and bend backward to meet the next one.

This picture shows the riveting in the area where the plates are connected to each other
